Tomorrow is August 31st, 2015. It is a Monday. Tomorrow I welcome my staff and faculty. I have missed them over the summer. During the school year, there is a definite rhythm that if you read this blog I have spoken about before. By the time June rolls around, as much as I love my middle schoolers and my staff (they are AWESOME), I need a break. I need some down time. The school year is such a hectic, demanding and stress filled time, after 10 months I need to be able to breath. But by August, something has changed. I feel more relaxed, I feel rested. More than that, I miss the hectic. I miss the non-stop day, where you look at the clock and it is all of a sudden 4:30. I miss the LIFE that is present when there are students and teachers in the building. Yes, there will be bad days. Yes, there will be upset parents. Yes, there will be times when I wonder why I am in this profession. But in the end, I know how much I look forward to each new year, how I still feel that excitement of the first day of school.
Each new year brings with it a fresh start. A new beginning. Another chance to make a difference for kids. How many jobs are like that? I wish all of you a great 2015-16 school year. Be committed to making a difference this year. June will be here before you know it.
